George’s Journey: Supporting His Skin Care After a Difficult Start
Share
When Jacqui rehomed six-year-old Lurcher George from the RSPCA in October 2025, she was delighted to welcome him into the family. Just a few weeks later, that happy start took a worrying turn when George developed a skin problem that his vet diagnosed as an allergic reaction to midge bites. Jacqui acted quickly, taking him straight to the vet, where he was prescribed a course of steroids. It was an understandably worrying period for Jacqui.

“I was so anxious. I worried about him and how to make him comfortable. It was a
nightmare.”
Once George's veterinary treatment was complete and his skin had settled, Jacqui
began thinking about how best to look after his skin as part of his normal everyday
routine.
Finding a daily skin-care routine
A friend who owned horses had previously used Biteback Products and recommended the Sweet Relief range. Jacqui chose Sweet Relief Lotion, which forms a physical barrier to midge bites while helping to soothe an itch and calm the skin. It also contains Allantoin, which supports the normal skin and hair cell replacement cycle. Designed for routine skin and coat care, Sweet Relief Lotion can be applied regularly as part of a dog's normal grooming regime.
Jacqui introduced it gradually and made application part of George's everyday
routine.
“I gently applied the lotion a little more each day.”
What mattered most to Jacqui was having a straightforward routine that she felt
comfortable continuing consistently.
Building confidence through consistency
Jacqui now uses Sweet Relief Lotion twice a day as part of George's routine, forming
a physical barrier to midge bites and helping to keep his skin comfortable and clear.
For her, one of the biggest benefits has simply been feeling more confident about
looking after his skin day to day.
“Confidence - that's been my biggest takeaway. I feel able to take him out knowing
that I've got a routine in place. I feel totally that ‘Biteback has my back’."
George may not always be particularly enthusiastic about being sprayed, but it has
become a familiar part of their day.
More than just products
Looking back, Jacqui says the support she received from Biteback was just as important to her.
“I really, really appreciated the online support. It was such a frightening time and it
was wonderful having someone there with help and advice.”
For Jacqui, being able to ask questions about using the product and establishing a
regular grooming routine helped her feel more confident.
“I didn't feel so alone.”

Jacqui's verdict
Today, Sweet Relief Lotion remains part of George's regular skin-care routine, with
Jacqui taking a consistent approach to looking after his skin and coat. For her, the experience has reinforced the value of seeking veterinary advice whenever a skin problem arises, followed by a simple and consistent everyday care routine once veterinary treatment has finished.
If your dog develops a new, persistent or concerning skin problem, always
seek advice from your veterinary surgeon.
